On March 18th, 2014, another one of our beloved board members, Adriana Pabon, was diagnosed with a rare form of breast cancer. Adriana would soon find herself undergoing a double mastectomy and cancer treatments. At the time of her diagnosis, Adriana was already dreaming up an event she would later take the lead on and High Hopes in High Heels would host, The Affirmations Project. That event only further sparked passion in Adraina’s heart and she created the charity organization, The Affirmations Project. This organization is dedicated to providing emotional and financial support to women who are cancer and domestic violence survivors.

The Affirmations Project Gala has become a staple of the Tampa Bay area community. Each year, survivors select an affirmation word that is then body painted and photographed into beautiful pieces of art. The striking photos show the strength, determination and hope that each of these survivors embody.

The Affirmations Project promotes self-love and self-acceptance, and to empower women to stop self-deprecation and to restore self-love. They inspire women to reaffirm their true value, and to look at themselves and see beauty regardless of the scars that mark their bodies. They believe in the power of words. What we say we are, we will become.
